Terms of Service

These terms are the agreement between you and Grayblock. We have tried to write them in plain language rather than the usual fog, because terms nobody can read protect nobody.

Last updated 21 September 2026

1. Who we are

Grayblock is operated by Grayblock Technologies Private Limited (CIN U00000MH2026PTC000000), a company registered in India, with its registered office at Registered office address line 1, City, State PIN, India. In these terms, “we”, “us” and “Grayblock” mean that company, and “you” means the person using the service.

You can reach us about anything in this document at team@grayblock.io.

“Grayblock” covers the website at grayblock.io and its subdomains, our mobile apps, the focus rooms and the video service behind them, and everything we make available through them.

2. Accepting these terms

By creating an account or using Grayblock you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use the service. Your use of Grayblock is also governed by our Privacy Policy and our Community Rules, both of which form part of this agreement.

Nothing here creates an employment, agency or partnership relationship between us.

3. Who can use Grayblock

You must be 18 or older. Grayblock shows live camera video between members, and we have deliberately not built it for children. If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 18, we will close it and delete the data.

By using Grayblock you confirm that:

  • you are at least 18 years old;
  • the details you give us are true, and you keep them up to date;
  • you are not barred from using the service under any applicable law; and
  • we have not previously closed an account of yours for breaking these terms.

4. Your account

You can register with an email address and password, or sign in with Google. One person, one account. You are responsible for keeping your password safe and for everything that happens under your account, so choose a strong password and tell us at once if you think someone else has access to it.

You can delete your account at any time from your settings, or by writing to us. We explain what happens to your data when you do in the Privacy Policy.

5. What Grayblock is

Grayblock is a set of quiet video rooms where people work alongside each other. Concretely, and by design:

  • Your camera is optional. You choose before you join, and you can turn it off at any point once you are in.
  • Microphones are off. There is no audio in focus rooms at all. We do not transmit your microphone.
  • There is no screen sharing. Grayblock shares your camera and nothing else. Nobody can see what is on your screen.
  • We do not record. Video is relayed live between the people in the room and is never stored by us. There is no recording for you or anyone else to play back later.

Beyond the rooms, Grayblock keeps a record of your focus sessions, a task list, a profile, follows, direct messages, a leaderboard and a per-room chat. We add, change and remove features as the product develops.

6. Behaviour in rooms

A focus room is a shared space. When your camera is on, the other members of that room can see you, and what is behind you. Think about that before you turn it on.

The Community Rules set out what is and is not acceptable. In short: be decent, keep it work-appropriate, do not harass anyone, and do not record, photograph or screenshot other members. Doing that to someone without their consent is a serious breach of these terms and may also be an offence.

We may remove you from a room, suspend your account or close it if you break these rules. Where it is sensible to do so we will warn you first, but we do not have to when the breach is serious.

7. Study streams in rooms

While Grayblock grows, some focus rooms include partner study streams: recorded sessions from study creators, shown with their permission, alongside live members. They fill rooms at quiet hours so you are never studying alone.

These accounts work like any other: they have profiles, they rank on the leaderboard for the hours they streamed, and you can follow them or write to them. What they will not do is answer. Nobody is reading a message sent to a study stream, and nothing they post is written by a person at the time you see it. We remove them from a room once it has enough live members.

8. What you put on Grayblock

Your profile, photo, status, tasks, messages and chat lines are yours. You keep ownership of them.

You give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, copy and display that content for the single purpose of running Grayblock — showing your photo on your tile, delivering your message to the person you sent it to, and so on. The licence exists so the service can work, and it ends when you delete the content or your account, except where we have to keep a copy for a legal reason.

You are responsible for what you post, and you confirm that you have the right to post it. We do not review content before it appears. We may remove anything that breaks these terms, the Community Rules or the law, and we may do so without notice where the content is harmful.

9. Plans and payment

Grayblock is free to use, every day, with no card and no limit on your focus time. There are no paid plans at the moment and nothing to buy, so nothing is charged.

If we introduce paid plans later, we will set out the prices, renewal, cancellation and refund terms here first, and nobody is moved onto a paid plan without choosing it.

10. Things you must not do

You agree not to:

  • record, photograph or screenshot other members, or the inside of a room;
  • break the law, or infringe anyone else's rights, using Grayblock;
  • harass, threaten, impersonate or discriminate against anyone;
  • post sexual, violent or otherwise inappropriate content on camera or in text;
  • use bots, scrapers or automated means to access the service or collect member data;
  • try to break, overload or get around the security of the service, or access accounts or data that are not yours;
  • resell, rent out or commercially exploit any part of Grayblock without our written permission; or
  • create a new account to get around a suspension.

11. Our content and software

Grayblock — the software, design, text, logos and everything else we made — belongs to us or our licensors and is protected by intellectual property law. We give you a personal, revocable, non-transferable licence to use it as the service intends, and nothing more. You may not copy, modify, decompile or create derivative works from it except where the law says you may regardless.

Grayblock is built on open-source software, whose own licences continue to apply to it.

12. The service will change, and sometimes break

Grayblock is a young product and is offered in beta. We add, change and remove features, and we may interrupt the service for maintenance or updates. We will give notice where we reasonably can.

We may also suspend or discontinue the service altogether. If we do, we will tell you and give you a reasonable opportunity to export your data, and we will refund any pre-paid period you cannot use.

13. Suspension and closure

We may suspend or close your account if you break these terms or the Community Rules, if we are required to by law, or if your use of the service puts other members or the service itself at risk. Except where a breach is serious, we will tell you why and give you a chance to respond.

Closing an account does not by itself entitle you to compensation or a refund, and does not cancel any fees already due.

14. Disclaimers

Grayblock is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. To the extent the law allows, we do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free or secure, that it will work on every device or browser, or that it will meet your particular requirements.

Grayblock is a place to work, not a wellbeing, medical, educational or professional service. We do not vet the members you meet in a room, and we are not responsible for their conduct. Use your judgement about what you show on camera and what you tell people.

Nothing in these terms excludes any liability that cannot be excluded under Indian law.

15. Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for lost profits, lost data, lost opportunity or reputational harm, arising from your use of Grayblock.

Our total liability to you for any claim relating to the service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or ₹1,000.

This clause does not limit liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law.

16. Indemnity

You agree to cover us for any claim, loss or reasonable cost we incur because you broke these terms, broke the law, or infringed someone else's rights while using Grayblock.

17. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If a change matters to you, we will tell you by email or in the app before it takes effect, and the date at the top of this page will change. Continuing to use Grayblock after that means you accept the new terms; if you do not, you can close your account.

18. General

If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest stays in force. If we do not enforce a right straight away, we have not given it up. We may transfer our rights and obligations under these terms to another company, for example if the business is sold, without reducing your rights; you may not transfer yours without our written permission.

These terms, together with the Privacy Policy and the Community Rules, are the whole agreement between us about Grayblock.

19. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of India. The courts at Pune have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them, except that if you are a consumer, nothing here affects your right to bring proceedings where the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 allows you to.

20. Grievances and contact

For any complaint about Grayblock, including content posted by another member, write to our Grievance Officer at team@grayblock.io. We acknowledge complaints within 24 hours and aim to resolve them within 15 days, as required by the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021.

Please include your account email, what happened, and when — it lets us act much faster.
